In an Afghan house the tea arrives with company: a dish of golden aabjosh raisins, a dish of almonds, a dish of jujube, and nobody eats them alone. Aabjosh are blanched before drying, which is why they stay soft and gold. Badam Kaghazi almonds break between two fingers. Jujube are crisp and apple-sweet and vanish first. The saffron is for the pot itself, a few threads in hot milk with cardamom for sheer chai. Limited run while stock holds. Hand-packed with a blank card. Only available here.
